Which placemats to put on the breakfast table?
For restaurants and especially for breakfast, placemats are very practical to use. Whether synthetic, leatherette or textile, placemats are easy to put in place and change quickly between customers. Moreover, placemats allow you to brighten up your tables with colours, and by varying on shapes (rectangles, rounds or ovals) to create more playful/original atmospheres.
What is the ideal material for placemats for a restaurant?
You can find synthetic placemats, textile placemats and leatherette placemats on the market. The choice of material will depend on the desired decoration and the maintenance conditions. Even though placemats are easier to clean than textile materials, the presentation aspect is much better with cotton, linen or half-linen placemats. Well-known gourmet restaurants have opted for linen placemats, for example, enhancing both their table and plates.
At Bergan, textile placemats are made of cotton, cotton/linen or polycotton, while synthetic placemats are made of either polyvinyl, polyester or polyacrylic.
What dimensions for my placemats?
It is best to choose your placemats according to the size of your plates and tables, thus keeping a gap between them and the cutlery. The most common sizes are :
- 40 x 30 cm
- 45 x 30 cm
- 45 x 35 cm

How do I care for my placemats?
The care of placemats varies according to the material. Textile placemats can be washed in the washing machine at 40° to 60° or even 90° for cotton, while synthetic placemats can be washed with a damp sponge and a little soap. Please refer to the care instructions on the placemats' product sheets.
